The glass top lifts to reveal rouge marble base with attached balance pans, the lower case with adjustable feet conceals scales mechanism. c. 1860's. Overall 13 1/8 in. wide, 6 1/2 in. deep, 7 1/2 in. tall. N.B. Henry Troemner of Philadelphia was the first to make scales on the principle of having the load superimposed on, instead of being suspended from the beam. He started his factory in the 1860's.
