Description:

ADOLPHE PIOT OIL ON CANVAS LAID ON BOARD (France, 1850-1910) "He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not," portrait of a young woman in a green dress picking petals from a daisy. Image measures 31" x 24.5", signed "A. Piot" lower right. In a wide 19th century gilt wood and gesso frame. Provenance: Mrs. Ida Butler (d. 1991) to her heirs and sold at this auction house in 2004.

    Condition:
  • 701: The painting has been trimmed and adhered to board. There is some inpainting along the top edge and left edge. There are a few spots of inpainting to the left of the woman's head. There is some craquelure, mostly to the lower left corner and to the center right. The canvas has some stretcher wear.
