Description:

JAPANESE IVORY OKIMONO, man standing with one hand supporting the arm holding a chicken egg, one eye closed for candling. Scrimshawed costume and leggings, a woven basket of eggs supported by shoulder strap. A bag and inro suspended from belt. Height 13.75". Signed in Japanese within a red rectangle under foot. Meiji Period. c.1870's.

  • 723: The carving has several cracks, repairs and chips.
