JOSE SABOGAL DIEGUEZ (Peru, 1888-1956) oil on canvas, "Cholita Ayacucha," a woman in traditional pleated dress and hat from Ayachucho, south-central Peru. Signed lower left and dated 1949, titled verso and sketch on verso. Image measures 15" x 13". In a wood frame; 20" x 17.75" overall. Sabogal is a painter and muralist known for promoting indigenous art. He was the director and taught at Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes in Lima and cofounded the Instituto Libre de Arte Peruano.
