ASHLEY ROBERT RUSSELL (Oregon, 1922-1944) 35 pen and ink drawings, everyday life of a WWII soldier. Dates range from 1943-1944, some sketches are titled, images measure approximately 4" x 6.5". Private 1st Class Ashley R. Russell was the son of artist Ashley Harold and Mytis L. Russell. Private Russell was killed in France by a German sniper while on Special Intelligence duty. Russell and his Sarg were making quick sketches of enemy positions shortly after crossing from England to France on V-Day. Sketches are mounted to matting, 21" x 16.25" overall. This lot complements lot 150 in this auction.
