CHARLES ROLLO PETERS (California, 1862-1928) oil on canvas, Custom House at Night, Monterey. Signed lower left and inscribed "Monterey." Image measures 7.5" x 10". In a wood frame; 11.5" x 14" overall. The Monterey Custom House was built in 1827 by the Mexican Government when California belonged to Mexico. Peters was born in San Francisco and painted in a Tonalist style. He was active in the San Francisco Art Association and the Bohemian Club. Peters helped found the Del Monte Art Gallery in Monterey.

  • Condition: 105: The painting is in good overall condition. It has a very small (1/16") chip to the center left, a small amount of craquelure to the blue wall and a few very small spots of inpainting.
