FRANK BRANGWYN (New U.S./U.K./Belgium, 1867-1956)watercolor, gouache, and charcoal on paper, "The Scourging of St. Alban," study for the mural painted for Christ's Hospital, West Horsham., circa 1912-1923. Unsigned. Opening measures 13.5" x 20.5". In a wood frame; 21" x 28" overall. Brangwyn began working in the William Morris Studio at age 15 and was influenced by the Renaissance movement, Arts & Craft movement, and by Post-Impressionists. In 1912 Brangwyn was commissioned to paint 14 large murals and 2 smaller murals for Christ's Hospital Chapel. This is a study for one of the large murals.
