THEODORE ROUSSEAU OIL ON PANEL (France, 1812-1867) Barbizon landscape with trees silhouetted against an orange and yellow sunset, a path leading to a darkened pond with a village in the distance. Image measures 16.5" x 21.5", signed "TH Rousseau" lower right. In a gilt wood and gesso frame. Rousseau was an important figure in the Barbizon school and was friends with Jules Dupre and Jean-Francois Millet.

  • Condition: 712: The painting is in good overall condition with some craquelure and some inpainting to the craquelure. There is a small amount of frame wear and some inpainting to the frame wear, particularly to the upper left edge. There are two small inpainted chips, one to the upper right corner and one an inch from the edge at the upper center.
